Call of the Heart - Rescue at the Tham Luang Cave
Inspired by true events, this story recounts the rescue of the young Moo Pa (Wild Boar) team, who were stuck in the flooded Tham Luang Cave in Thailand. When the boys didn’t return home, the rescue programme swung into action. The story builds up the tension of the rising water and the long wait as the rescue team assessed the dangers involved in the rescue. The legend of the Tham Luang mountain and cave, and what it signifies to the local people is retold, together with details of the cave, demonstrating the challenges and perils faced by the rescuers. The story is told through the participation of the only Singaporean, Douglas Yeo, a volunteer diver.
The book includes portraits of all the boys and their coach, acknowledgement of some of the principal divers who were awarded medals in their home countries and honoured in Thailand as well, together with some of the Thai authorities directing the mission. Each person involved in this rescue mission was a hero collaborating in an act of humanity, proving how large the human heart can be.
The book is translated into Thai and published by the Chiang Mai Read Programme, as part of their One Book, One City project. The book will be brought to all children of the selected age group in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provinces to enhance their reading skills, as well as their knowledge of their province with ancillary activities in their vicinity.
Suitable for kids from the age of 5 to 12 years. Illustrated by Phookpan Chairat.
